South Africa

In March 1998, during his Africa tour President President Bill Clinton visited South Africa where he spent his longest stay compared to the five African nations included in the tour. South Africa made a peaceful transition from apartheid. It has a robust political system and a largely industrial economy. The U.S. hopes that with being an economically healthy and politically stable country, South Africa can help the entire continent develop better to fight poverty and improve education and health. South Africa has made good progress and his helping some African countries, but still fighting poverty and HIV aids in its own territory.
